Or mah-jong is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China, and which has since spread throughout the world. It is commonly played by four players. The game is played with a set of 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols, although many regional variations may omit some tiles or add unique ones.

Similar to the Western card game rummy, mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and luck. This set's component pieces fit into 5 shelves which slide into a nicely made, brass-trimmed wooden box measuring 9-1/4" in width, 6-1/2" in depth, and 9-1/4 in height. There are a total of 148 tiles including 8 that are blank. We have no idea when or where this set was made or what the tiles are made of, but it appears to have been one of the better-made, more expensive sets when new. This set comes from a non-smoking household. The sliding front of the box is in need of repair. Otherwise, this set appears to be in very good condition for its age. If you live closer than that, it should be less. Has been priced to sell.
