Moore & Wright No 990 Vintage Steel British Workshop Combination Set in original wooden box 1944. All original combination set with rule, square head, protractor and centre head. All parts move freely and the level bubbles are intact, but the scriber is missing and there are no instructions/specifications.

As well as the M&W markings, there is an upwards pointing broad arrow /crows foot ordnance mark and 1944 inscribed on the rule, suggesting ownership by the British Army. Inventory numbers 32/503 or 32-503 are engraved on each piece. I have given it a basic clean up but not gone too mad as I know some like the patination. It could readily be cleaned more. Details of markings are as follows and also shown in the photos.

The wooden box has dovetail jointing at the corners, and the lid is edged at each side with a strip of wood running at right angles to the centre section. The box has track marks of previous heavy-duty sellotaping around it in two places and there are pin tacks at each side of the box holding the lid on, whilst the metal hinges are in good working order.

There isn't even the faintest of a trace of labels/markings on the box, but the inset for the ruler suggests it is the original M&W box. The rule has the original M&W engravings with the words'MOORE & WRIGHT SHEFFIELD ENGLAND','HARDENED','LONDON' and'M&E GRADUATION'. On one side the rule has inches in 32nds on one edge and centimetres in half millimetres on the other edge. On the other side the rule has inches in 64ths on one edge and centimetres in millimetres on the other edge. The rule also has an.

Upwards pointing broad arrow /crows foot ordnance mark with'1944' on it. The protractor has original M&W engravings with the words'MOORE & WRIGHT SHEFFIELD ENGLAND'. It also has 32-502 engraved along one side of the base and has 4-/145 engraved along the other side of the base and'ERS No1' engraved around the outer curve. The centre head has 32/503 engraved on it. The square head has'MOORE & WRIGHT SHEFFIELD ENGLAND No 990' engraved along the bottom edge on one side and 32-503 engraved on the side edge on the other side.
